| ICEcat PIM |
The ICEcat Product Information Management (PIM) system is designed to manage very large databases of multilingual product data sheets . It is distributed under free open source license and can be downloaded from Sourceforge. It was developed in Perl / MySQL. PIM systems are often defined as PDM (Product Data Management) systems or CMS (catalog management systems, not to be confused with content management systems, which are mainly designed to manage websites). The development of ICEcat PIM started in 2001 to service a professional ICEcat.biz editor team in creating, importing, exporting millions of XML and standardize product data sheets. A product data sheet usually contains marketing texts, images, product specifications, videos, product index data (GTIN / EAN / UPC, manufacturer part numbers, categories) and PDFs of brochures or manuals. Gradually icecat.biz has grown to be the global market standard in IT, Telecom, Office Supplies and Consumer Electronics. This development is powered by the Open Catalog approach: Open ICEcat is a very large part of the database distributed as free open content (Open Content License Agreement - OPL). All top tech manufacturers signed up to sponsor Open ICEcat. Now it's a small step towards a free, open content open source software. We developed the free PIM software in the same development teams as the well known Batavi open source shop , which of course is seamlessly integrated with the (Open) ICEcat XML catalog, and is developed in PHP / MySQL. The 1.0 version of the ICEcat PIM is a "light" version of the official ICEcat back office used by ICEcat editor team. Assuming te same data model is very useful as a data hub from which ICEcat XML data can be imported and reused in other applications using SQL statements. In later versions, we will have live integration with the Open and Full ICEcat ICEcat XML data sources. See our section downloads |
